Melvin Joe Canafax, 86, of Hobbs, New Mexico, formerly of Shamrock died Wednesday, May 13, 2020 in Hobbs, New Mexico.
Graveside services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, May 16, 2020 in Shamrock Cemetery with Dale Cole, officiating.
Viewing will be held from 9:30 AM-3:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Due to the Coronavirus, we are only allowing 5 people to enter the funeral home at a time.
If attending the service, please be prepared to maintain social distancing practices.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock.
Melvin was born January 20, 1934 to Robert and Lestie Cagle Canafax. He married Nina Ray Shipman on December 26, 1954. He had been a longtime resident of Shamrock before moving to Hobbs, New Mexico 9 years ago. He had worked as a operator for El Paso Natural Gas prior to his retirement. He loved playing cards, pegs, and going to the Senior Center to play dominoes. His goal was always to be the winner. He also loved traveling the United States and Canada on his Honda gold wing. He was a great mechanic, and enjoyed camping and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on February 22, 2006; a son, Melvin Joe Canafax, Jr.; two brothers, Bob and Leonard Canafax; two sisters, Jennie Scales and Shelly Jean Canafax; and two great grandchildren, Zeaui L'Noir Collins and RaeLeigh Beth.
Survived by his 5 daughters, Danna Evans, Gina Jeter (John) & Patti Stinson all of Hobbs, NM; Treva Reynolds of Weatherford OK & Micah Hughs of Amarillo TX. 11 grandkids, 29 + 1 due in November great grandkids & 1 great great grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to a local Senior Citizens Center or the American Heart Association.
