Born on February 7, 1937, in Kellerville, Texas, Maysie was the second of three children to Ollie and Vesta McPherson. She grew up in Kellerville, where she was active in school, playing in the band and starring on the basketball court. She attended high school in Shamrock, Texas, and it was there, while working at the Texas Theatre, that she met the love of her life, James Conner. They were united in marriage on March 14, 1952, beginning a journey of deep devotion that spanned nearly 70 years until James’ passing in 2022. Together, they raised four children.
Maysie’s love for music began at a very young age. She and her brother Bobby shared a radio program on the Shamrock radio station, where they read Nosie Nelly’s Kellerville News—their mother, Vesta, being the "Nosie Nelly." Maysie would then showcase her talent, playing the piano as she and Bobby sang a few songs. Her musical gifts continued to bless many throughout her life as she played the piano for several different churches.
Maysie and James were a powerful partnership in ministry, working and serving in several churches as Sunday School teachers and as a Pastor and Pastor's wife. A strong woman of faith, Maysie cherished the trip she and James were able to make to the Holy Lands in the late 1970s.
In her later years, Maysie became famously known for her ministry of knitting stocking caps. She crafted thousands of them, giving them away all over the Texas Panhandle. She made thousands for the Guyon Sanders Resource Center for the homeless in Amarillo and sharedthem with children around the world through Operation Christmas Child.
Maysie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Conner; her parents, Ollie andVesta McPherson; her two brothers, Richard and Bobby McPherson; two grandsons, TonyConner and Jeremy Lewis; and two great-grandsons, Ben and Brandon Lewis.
She is lovingly remembered and cherished by her four children: Jeannie and Steve Lucas, Bob and Teresa Conner, John and Evelyn Conner, Becky Thomas. Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren: Misty and Shane Everett, Brandon and JoAnn Lewis, Sandy Lewis, Sasha and Ryan Davis, Shelly Lucas, Josh and Alisha Lucas, Adam Conner, Brandi and Shane Shugart, Melody and Larry Luna, Dario and Monica Dominguez, Melanie and James Ryan, Justin Martinez, Nick Thomas, and Chris and Kelly Thomas. Maysie also leaves behind numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
