Maurice Lee Risley's Obituary
CLARENDON SERVICES - 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Lance Wood, Pastor, and Bright Newhouse, Minister of Hedley Church of Christ, officiating. VISITATION - The family will receive friends for a time of visitation Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Robertson Funeral Directors in Clarendon. INTERMENT - with Masonic Rites by Clarendon Masonic Lodge #700, AF &AM in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Risley was born November 30, 1923 in Goldston, Texas to Adam and Icy Stanford Risley. Maurice was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was in the 79th Infantry Division as well as the 463rd anti aircraft artillery. He served in France and Germany during the war. He married Mary Neal Davis on May 22, 1952 in Clarendon. He was a graduate of West Texas State University where he received his bachelor‘s degree. Maurice worked as a GI Vocational Ag Teacher, County School Superintendent, and teacher at Ashtola. He also was an insurance agent and member of Farm Bureau. He was a devoted 50 year member of the Clarendon Masonic Lodge #700 AF & AM where he served as past Worshipful Master. While a member he also became a 32nd degree York and Scottish Rite Mason, as well as a member of the Al Morrah Shrine. He was also a member of the Clarendon Order of the Eastern Star #6 where he served as past Worthy Patron. He was a member of the NRA, the First Baptist Church of Clarendon, and was a former Secretary of the Clarendon Lions Club. He enjoyed quail and pheasant hunting, taking care of cattle, and reading. He had a great sense of humor, made people laugh, never met a stranger, had a zest for life, and had a sincere interest in people. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - his parents; his brother, Lloyd F. Risley; and 2 sisters, Clara Lohoefer and Helen McGregor. SURVIVORS - his wife, Mary Neal Risley of Clarendon; daughter, Janet Bennett and husband Paul of Dallas. CASKET BEARERS - Members of the Clarendon Masonic Lodge #700. MEMORIALS - The family request memorials be to the American Cancer Society or Odyssey Hospice.
