Mary, daughter of Fred and Edna Waters, was born on October 25, 1928, in Wheeler, Texas. She attended school in Gageby, Briscoe, and graduated from Wheeler High School, where she excelled in basketball, among other things.
On January 26, 1947, Mary and Joseph Ruskin Weatherly embarked on a beautiful journey together. During their 64 years of marriage, Mary played a pivotal role in the development of Heritage Beef Cattle Company, where she served as a financial administrator. She was a proud member of the Cowbells with the Texas Cattle Feeders Association and led a women's Bible study at First Baptist Church Wheeler, where she was a member for many years. She had a gift of hospitality and entertained people from all over the world, but her greatest joy came from serving her family. Mary was a homemaker; she loved gardening, decorating, and setting the table for every occasion. A woman of great faith, Mary spent her morning in the Word with a hot cup of coffee and a roaring fire in the fireplace, covering her family in prayer. Mary exemplified the virtues of a Proverbs 31 woman beautifully.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Edna Waters; her husband Joseph Ruskin Weatherly; her brother Doyle Waters; and sister Wanda Sue Herd.
She is survived by her daughter Diane Hunter and husband, Villard, of College Station, Texas; her daughter Nancy Riemer of Amarillo, Texas; her son Rodney Weatherly and wife, Debra, of Wheeler, Texas; her seven grandchildren, Terri Olsen and husband Ronnie, Chad Hunter and wife Patty, Rowdy Riemer and wife Shanna, Casey Riemer and wife Heather, Dustin Weatherly and wife Taylor, Shea Weatherly and wife Bridget, Rachel Shreffler and husband Ricky; twenty-three great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Her nieces and nephews include Tabby Ashmore, Phil Herd, Tina Sauer, Jeff Herd, and Karen Waters.
Mary has been described by her family as gracious, virtuous, honorable, generous, soft-spoken, nurturing, peaceful, and faithful. In her final days she left her family with these words of wisdom: be kind to one another, love one another, and love God.
