Mary Christine Hendrick Underwood's Obituary
Mary Christine Underwood was born April 18, 1931, in Crockett, Texas on her Grandfather Strickland’s farm. She died on February 1, 2020, at the age of 88. Christine was the fourth of five daughters born to Walter and Phonzie Strickland and was always called Mary by her parents and family. However, in high school, a tall, handsome boy named “Dink” called her Chris and so she was Chris ever after.
Chris and Dink (R.E. Hendrick Jr.) married in 1949 and had three children, Ronald Eugene who died at birth, Larry Ray, and Carol Ann.
Chris and Dink lived in many places but in anticipation of their coming retirement, they moved to Wheeler in 1983.
She was widowed in January 1990 after forty years of marriage to Dink. She met Robert D. “Bob” Underwood at church and they were later married.
Chris enjoyed life and she loved to travel and after retiring she and Bob made many trips with a camper in tow.
Chris was again widowed in March of 2017 after twenty-six years of marriage to Bob.
She is survived by her two children, Larry Hendrick and his wife Deborah and Carol Kiphart, two grandsons, Kelly Hendrick and Corey Cook, and three great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2:30 pm Saturday, February 8, 2020, at the Church of Christ in Wheeler, Texas. The church is located at 1001 S. Alan Bean Blvd., Wheeler, Texas 79096. Private family burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
