Mary (Meme) Marie Sparkman Rankins was born to Lon and Lela Sparkman on November 13, 1925 in Samnorwood, Texas. She married D.W. (Tater) Rankins on June 21, 1945.
She and Tater spent a life of 61 years together farming, ranching, fishing, and tackling new adventures like owning and operating her own beauty shop as well as a gas station on historic Route 66. Mary and Tater could dance until the cows came home and enjoyed spending family time playing games while the grandkids ran by for hugs and snacks. She was proud of her family and bragged about her relatives and their accomplishments to anyone who would stand still long enough to listen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, D.W. Rankins, her daughter, Deborah Marie Rankins Latham, and granddaughter Bridgett Rankins Hare.
She is survived by her son, Gary Rankins and wife Linda of Amarillo, Texas. Granddaughters Tammy Latham Sorenson and husband Edwin of Saskatchewan, Canada, Tanya Latham Larkin and husband Dustin of Pampa, Texas, and Misty Rankins Lower and husband Scott of Amarillo, Texas. She has ten great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Interim Hospice, Pampa Regional Medical Center, and the McLean Care Center for their care for Mary during her last years and days of her life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Interim Hospice and Pampa Regional Medical Center.
