Mary was born to General Butler Hall Sr. and Anna Evelyn on August 13, 1938, in San Diego, California. At an early age, she began what would become a life-long career working at St. Joseph’s Hospital. That job, as well as her kind heart and genuine love for people, led her into nursing. She worked at the nursing homes in Gunter and Canadian, TX, Community Home Health in the Allison area, and the Pampa Hospital.
Mary met Charles Nelson at church in Roanoke, TX, and they were married on January 24, 1959. They went on to welcome two children. Mary was a loving mother and an even more loving grandmother. Her greatest joys in this life were her children, grandchildren, and many pets.
In addition to being a loving mother, grandmother, and nurse, Mary was also an avid crocheter. She loved to crochet doilies and blankets and took great joy in being able to give them away as gifts to family and friends. A member of the Church of Christ, Mary loved her church family, and everyone in it affectionately called her “Granny.”
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jimmie, Bobbie Lewis, and GB; and an infant son.
She is survived by daughter, Charlene Dukes and husband, Garland of Allison; son, Charles Nelson and wife, Jamie of Allison; three grandchildren, Brandon Dukes and wife, Keri of Wheeler, Ashley Lane of Allison and Bronwyn Huff and husband, Matthew of Allison; and four great-grandchildren, Chasey, Travis, Landry and Jack.
