Mary was born October 6, 1930 in Maryneal, Nolan County, Texas to Otho Brice and Mary Inez Russell Hartgraves. She grew up in Maryneal and attended Highland school until 1948. The family then moved to Divide where she graduated in 1948. Mary attended McMurry College, graduating in 1951 with a BS degree. She later attended West Texas State University and received her Masters of Education in 1973. Mary taught at Samnorwood, Divide, Quanah and Shamrock. From 1976-1991 she was a diagnostician with Eastern Panhandle Co-Op; having taught for 29 years.
Mary met JM Morgan at Samnorwood (family joke- She met him at his fathers funeral, we all say she crashed the funeral). They were married in Maryneal on July 4, 1953 . JM and Mary had two children, John M (Johnny) Morgan III and Jayne Ann. Mary lived in the Samnorwood area until 1978 when they moved to Shamrock. She then moved to Wellington in 2007. Mary was active in the Methodist Church, United Daughters of Confederacy and Daughters of American Revalution and loved geneology, which she had many notebooks of family history.
Mary played basketball and coached-which coaching never left her. She loved the San Antonio Spurs and you didn’t bother her when they were playing.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John M. Morgan Jr. in 2005 and a son, John M (Johnny) Morgan III in 2010.
She is survived by a daughter, Jayne, and husband, Byron; 2 grandsons, Beau Bell andwife, Jeanna. and Jackie Bell and wife, Kasey; a granddaughter, Jean Traughber; great grandsons, Kyler Bell, Brance Bell, Kanon Bell , and Robbie Traughber; and a great granddaughter, Kylee Peterson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to United Daughters of Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution or Shamrock First Methodist Church.
