Mary was born June 29, 1929, at Prairie Hill, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Homer Holton; she was the youngest of six children. Mary grew up in Wellington Texas.
In 1960 she married JC Darrow and moved to Shamrock. JC worked for the Rock Island Rail Road until it closed down in 1979. Mary was an excellent seamstress and a great cook; she loved to cook for her family, always providing each one with their favorite dish. In 1982 they moved to Panhandle after their youngest child finished school and Panhandle became their home. At the time of Mary’s death she was a resident of Heartis Assisted Living. In her time at Heartis she loved to serve others, by helping deliver newspapers and bringing the other residents their drinks at meal time. She would go around and check on all her friends and in March she was named volunteer of the month for all of her good deeds. Mary or Mammy as she was known by her family will be greatly missed.
