McLEAN SERVICES - 1:00 pm Saturday, May 9, 2009 in the First United Methodist Church in McLean with Rev. Thacker Haynes, Pastor, officiating. INTERMENT - Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of McLean. Martin Middleton "Joe" Burroughs was born August 17, 1917 in Center, Texas to William Monroe and Ruby Middleton Burroughs. He graduated from Gladewater, Texas High School in 1936. He attended Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. He married Dixie Patricia Bobo on May 26, 1939 in Gladewater. He was commissioned 1st Lt. in the United States Signal Corp, rising to the rank of Captain before he was discharged. He retired from Warren Petroleum in 1982 after 45 1/2 years of service. As Joe said and believed, "There were three things that make a man's life complete, a good wife, a good family, and good friends, I have all three." PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - Dixie, his wife of 69 1/2 years on January 17, 2009, his parents, and one brother William Monroe Burroughs. SURVIVORS - one daughter, Dixie Jo Crockett and husband David of McLean; one son, Joe Bob Burroughs and wife Karen of Odessa; 5 grandchildren, Brock Crockett and Shawn Bybee of McLean, Juliana Lewis of Panhandle, Lindsey Burroughs of Midland, and Derek Burroughs of Lubbock; and 12 great grandchildren. MEMORIALS - The family requests memorials be to BSA Hospice / 800 North Sumner / Pampa, Texas 79065. Visitation will be held from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM Friday, May 8, 2009 at the funeral home.
