Martin Cleon Byrd's Obituary
CLAUDE Graveside services at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 23, 2005 in the Claude Cemetery with Rev. Janet Edwards, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Claude, officiating. Cleon was born July 8, 1911 in Claude and was a lifetime Armstrong Co. resident. He married Doris Aldridge on October 26, 1935 at Claude. He had been a farmer and rancher all of his life. He had served on the Claude School Board, ASCS Committee, as the County Democratic Chairman, and various other committees and boards. He was a winning pitcher on a semi-pro baseball team in the 30s. He enjoyed checkers, dominos, and working with his land and cattle. He was a devoted husband, dad, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Claude. Survivors: a son, Bob Byrd and wife Sharon of Canyon, TX; two daughters, Jo Ann Byrd Miller and husband Jerry of Oakton, VA, Sarah Beth Byrd Fox and husband Denton of Richardson, TX; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 19, 2001 and by a son, Martin Cleon Byrd II in 1987. Memorials: First United Methodist Church in Claude, or a favorite charity.
