Martha Jo Roberts' Obituary
The world lost, but Heaven gained, one of the most beautiful and sassy souls the world has ever seen. Martha Jo Roberts passed away surrounded by family on August 19 just short of 72. She was born Martha Jo Walls in Slaton, Texas on September 6, 1950 to Herbert and Lois Walls. She graduated from Post High school and later West Texas State University. Mrs. Roberts or “Mimi” spent her life as a teacher at numerous schools throughout west Texas but mostly a quarter century at Claude ISD teaching kids of all ages, coaching, directing the one act play and braving the highways as a drivers education instructor.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dale Walls.
She is survived by a brother Derek Walls and wife Cheryl of Chico and sister Irene Fry of Post, a husband, Doug with whom she shared 48 years, children Brad Roberts and wife Nikki of Washburn, Leslie Burton and husband Brandon of Claude and Jeff Roberts and wife Aimee of Claude. Her family blossomed into 10 grandkids Ashley, Kelsee, Taylor, Carsen, Bobbie Renee, Kinzi, Brooklyn, Brayden, Scout and Kaylee and 3 great grandkids, Barrett, Emmersynn and Walker.
Mimi will be laid to rest at the Claude Cemetery following a service at the Great Plains Western Church in Washburn at 1pm on Monday August 22. Viewing will be available at Robertson’s in Claude from 1-6pm on August 21 with family visitation at The Burrow after 6.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Great Plains Western Church or the Claude ISD Memorial Scholarship Fund.
