Martha Jean Barker's Obituary
Martha Jean Barker, 91 of Pampa, TX, formerly of Shamrock, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 in Pampa at the age of 91 years 2 months and 27 days.
Services will be Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Robertson Funeral Home Chapel in McLean, TX at 10:00 AM with Thacker Haynes and Brady Horner officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 4-6 PM at Robertson Funeral Directors in McLean.
Martha was born in McLean on June 22, 1932 to William Elton and Maggie Ruth Alexander Johnston. She graduated from McLean High School in 1949 at the age of 16 years of age she married Vick Claton McPherson in Pampa, TX. They had three sons and one daughter. They lived in McLean, Stinnett, Breckenridge and Graham. In 1960, Martha and her children moved back to McLean. She managed the McLean Housing Authority Units and worked at the Marie Foundation Factory. Martha was baptized into Christ on January 23, 1962 at the Church of Christ in McLean. She married her soulmate, Rodney Roy Barker on June 12, 1964 at the Church of Christ in Shamrock with Eugene Henderson, officiating. Rodney, Martha and the children moved to Shamrock in 1965, adding to their family were 2 daughters.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Rodney on April 18, 2012; son Clint McPherson; her parents, a brother Fred Johnston and wife Mary; a brother Elton Johnston and wife Helen; a brother Dale Johnston and wife Marilyn; a sister Bettye West and husband Jack; also brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Becky Stubbs and Rodney’s parents , Roy and Jewel Barker
She is survived by sons, Cliff McPherson and wife Karen of Burleson; Tony McPherson and wife Karen of Borger. Three daughters Lettitia McPherson; Amy Ocker and husband Steven of San Angelo and Pam Barker and Jimmy Moya of Shamrock. There are fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The family suggest memorials be to Shamrock Meals on Wheels , Shamrock Public Library or Lovett Library in McLean
