Mark Steven Schrader, 72, of Goodnight, TX passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Cremation and arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Mark was born on December 1, 1952 to Clyde and Loriet (Plummer) Schrader in Port Lavaca, TX. The family then moved to Ft. Worth where Mark was raised. He graduated from Southwest High School, class of 1971. Mark then enlisted in the Marines because he knew his birthday was second on the draft. While enlisted, he spent time in Okinawa and the Philippines. Mark enrolled in college at Texas Tech University where he majored in finance and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He utilized his degree by becoming an accountant in the mortgage industry for 25 years, working for various companies in the DFW area. Mark then branched out on his own being a chief financial adviser for many companies for an additional 25 years. Mark was working even in his last days with us.
Mark met his future wife, Karen Stephens while working for Greenwich Capital Financial in Los Colinas, TX. Their shared love for Lonesome Dove and horses drew them together. After long distance dating between Austin and Fort Worth, and numerous cross-country horse adventures, including a trip to New Mexico for an endurance event where she hardly spoke to him on the drive, he knew he had to win her heart. Despite giving her the wrong, but truthful answer to her DTR (define the relationship) talk, he persisted in his quest, eventually, moving to Austin where she was teaching. They were married on September 26, 1993, in Ft. Worth and the couple resided in Southlake until after the birth of their beloved daughter, Sarah.
Mark was a voracious reader. When Karen began graduate school in Dallas and Sarah was a baby, he would read Rudyard Kipling and other classics to her while rocking her to sleep. He loved action movies, espionage novels, and history. He once catalogued their extensive library just for fun. It was a close count, but his collection of books slightly out numbered Karen’s own.
Mark’s career took the family to Scottsbluff, Nebraska for a short stay. But they came home to Texas and settled in Goodnight in 2001.
Mark had a lifelong love for the outdoors. He enjoyed baseball, golf, shooting sports, and hunting. Mark believed in his tribe and would do anything for them. He was a true fixer — always ready to help, heal, or provide a leg up to any who were in need. He was always working on something to make life easier and better for Karen and Sarah. They were always his number one priority.
Mark had been a resident of Goodnight for 25 years and was active in his community. Mark served on various boards across the Panhandle including TEXAS Outdoor Musical, Armstrong County Museum, and Haven Health Clinic. Mark was also a member of the First Methodist Church of Claude for 25 years.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Karen of Goodnight; daughter, Sarah Schrader of North Lake, TX; brother, David Schrader of Roaring Springs, TX; sister, Kathy Muncy of Olney, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Schrader, Jeff Tormey, Joe Gorman, Mike Johnson, Zach Schrader, Jordan Coulson, David Faulkner, and Tony Alvarado.
