Maria Olga Aguilar's Obituary
Maria “Olga” Aguilar, age 74, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.
Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, May 9, 2026 in Robertson Funeral Directors Heritage Chapel in Memphis. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis.
Viewing/Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Arrangements are under the care of Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
Olga was born on March 5, 1952, in Pharr, Tx to Ignacio Gonzalez and Enedina Benavides. From a very young age, she understood the meaning of hard work and sacrifice. As a seasonal worker alongside her family, she helped her mother care for her younger siblings, developing the strong, loving, and selfless spirit that would define her life.
On June 15, 1970, she married the love of her life, Samuel “Sammy” Aguilar. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. Olga was a lifelong resident of Memphis and a devoted member of Iglesia Firme. Once she found God, her faith became the center of her life. She loved the Lord deeply and always put Him first, faithfully participating in church activities and serving whenever she could.
Olga spent much of her life caring for others, working as a caregiver before later becoming a driver for Panhandle Transit. She had a heart for people and found joy in the simple things in life — going out to eat, enjoying her favorite Sonic cherry limeade, and looking forward to the cherry lime snow cones her nephew Cotton lovingly made for her during the summer months. She loved antiques, window shopping, and spending time laughing, gossiping, and sharing meals with her cherished gal pals.
Above all else, Olga loved her family deeply. She treasured the ones who showed up for her and cared for her, but she also understood that life becomes busy for the many nieces and nephews she loved so much. Her love for her family was constant, unconditional, and unwavering.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sammy Aguilar; her parents, Ignacio and Enedina Gonzalez; three sisters, Oliva Barbosa, Estella Rodriguez, and Yolanda Flores — lovingly known as “the original Golden Girls”; and one brother, Manuel Gonzalez.
She is survived by her brothers, Jose Gonzalez and wife Diana of Memphis, Robert Gonzalez of Memphis, and Ignacio Gonzalez Jr. of Arizona; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.
Olga will be remembered for her strength, her stubborn spark, her loving heart, her faith in God, and the laughter and warmth she brought into the lives of everyone around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now reunited with those who went before her and resting peacefully in the presence of the Lord.
