GEORGETOWN, TX / SHAMROCK MEMORIAL GRAVESIDE SERVICE - 11:00 am Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock with Rev. Joe G. Jernigan, officiating. INURNMENT - Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock. Cremation & Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock. Mrs. Benson was born August 11, 1916 in Carnes, Mississippi to George and Margaret A. Carnes Smith. She worked for the state of Louisiana at the capital building during World War II. After the war, she married Lyman G. Benson of Shamrock in Tucson, Arizona in 1945 and they enjoyed a wonderful life together. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very active in her community and helped restore many of the historical landmarks her community enjoys. She was a true champion in whatever endeavors she undertook. Having friends over for a fish fry was one of her many joys. She took and active part, not only with her family and friends, but her community as well. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shamrock. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - her parents; husband, Lyman G. Benson; a son Gray Benson. SURVIVORS - a daughter, Sue Campbell and husband Jerry of Georgetown, Tx; a grandson, Grayson Benson of Amarillo; 2 great grandchildren, Averie and Cheyenne Benson of Amarillo; a sister-in-law, Pauline Benson of Amarillo; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. MEMORIALS - The family request memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
