Red was one to look up to in so many ways.
I remember he and my Uncle DeJuan Strickland as young men. Both were bigger than life in my eyes. I likened them to John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Loy and DeJuan grew up together in Floyd County, Texas. Which one of these Lockney Graduates, both born in 1934 in the West Texas Dust, could take the other? I was never told other than they never fought. My suspicion is that these close friends and then cousins (through marriage-June Davis) would have dropped their dueling pistols and shook hands.
Loy Davis was also a friend to both of us, Pamela Ann McGregor and James Russell McGregor (Strickland). He took pride in watching over the Clarendon home of my grandparents, Clarence and Eddie Strickland, and their Howardwick property. He gave Pam the keys to the Strickland Olds 98 and told her to take it for a ride in 2013. We did. Thank you Red! I have many cherished memories of you! It was sure an honor to know you and you are missed dearly already. Thanks for all the coffee :) God Bless,
Love to June,
Russell and Pamela
