Louis "Paul" Hicks' Obituary
Louis “Paul” Hicks, 62, a long-term resident of Shamrock, Texas, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024 in McLean, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a date decided in the future.
Paul was born in Amarillo, Texas to Lottie Mae (Clay) Hicks Cole and Louis Dalford “Bill” Hicks on January 15, 1962. He graduated from Wheler High School in 1980. He married Judy Luster Smith on October 16, 1987 in Hart, Texas.
He worked a number of years as a truck driver, both short and long haul. He worked for Pilot Flying J in Sayre, Oklahoma as a fuel delivery driver and then for Garrisons in Shamrock for 5 years as both an office manager/fuel delivery driver.
Paul loved keeping his hands busy by working on cars, building guns and in his spare time loved hunting with his kids and grandkids. He was heavily invested in the Shamrock Volunteer Fire Department where he served the community for 20 years, keeping his community safe by fighting fires. He was involved with the First Baptist Church of Shamrock, working with the sound booth and cameras and running the food distribution side of the Ministry Center. The mountains of New Mexico were his “happy place”. He especially loved Sipapu and Bobcat Pass. He had a love for life and helping others.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy, Aunt Bebe Nunn, his stepfather TJ Cole and his wife Eula “Pete”Cole and stepsister Zinna Kaye Dickey.
He is survived by his daughter Dayna Hicks of Loveland, Colorado, stepdaughter DeAnna and husband Ronny Vandever of Mobeetie, Texas, Stepson Michael and wife Gena Smith of Mobeetie. Stepsister Frances and husband Toney Dickey of Mobeetie, and stepbrothers Tommye and wife Sharlottie Cole of McLean, Jimmye and wife Wendy Cole of Pampa, Texas and Rustye and wife Kayla Cole of Denver, Colorado. Grandchildren Raysha (Vandever) and Justin Walker, Ryan and Reba Vandever, Tyler and Torie Smith, Taylor and Clarisa Smith, Kellan and Emily Quarles, Kaylan Smith and Kelton Quarles, along with 12 great grandchildren and so many friends he considered family.
Memorials may be given to the Shamrock Volunteer Fire Department or the First Baptist Church of Shamrock.
