Lloyd "Red" Ward's Obituary

GRAVESIDE SERVICES- 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 1, 2012 in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis with Rev. Robert G. Blum, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Memphis, officiating.
INTERMENT- Fairview Cemetery in Memphis.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
Red was born in Wayne, Oklahoma on April 28, 1917, to Toliver V. and Clara Melton Ward. The family moved to Hall County in 1925. He was married to Olamae Jones.
Red was a farmer and home builder. He built many houses and countless cabinets in the community and farmed until 2007. He was very active in the community. Red was a member and office holder - including Chief, of the Memphis Volunteer Fire Department from February 28, 1938, until he retired in the late 1960’s. While a volunteer firefighter and even after he retired, he still spent a Saturday night each September in the park preparing the meat to be served at the Hall County Picnic the following day. In the early 1950s Lloyd served on the Memphis City Council. He was a member, and past Worshipful Master, of Masonic Lodge 729. He was a member and served as President of the Memphis Country Club. He was also involved in the Memphis Little League and Riding Clubs.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Olamae, and a son Lloyd Alvin.
Beloved by many, “Papa” or “Uncle Red”, as he is known by his family, is survived by a daughter, Jone Ponder, two granddaughters, Shannon and husband Brad Follis, Chrysta and husband John Mark Ferrel, three great grandsons Randy Follis, Kix and Jax Ferrel. Surviving nieces and nephews include Doris Lee of Memphis, Jimmie Cannon of Amarillo, Marcene Molloy of Lakeview, Genell Harris of Fort Worth, Deanna Wilson of Garden Ridge, Joe Ward of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Jack Ward of Amarillo, Carl Brumley of Fort Worth, Jon Brumley of Aledo, Harrold Brumley of Austin, Curry Stephens of Garland and Randy Spence of ConCan. “Uncle Red” had a large extended family throughout Texas and New Mexico.
