Laura Fern (Wells) Selby's Obituary
Laura Fern (Wells) Selby left for her eternal home in Heaven on November 16, 2025 at the age of 86 years and 6 months in Wheeler, TX. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Mobeetie Cemetery in Mobeetie, TX, with Dr. Alberta Helton officiating, assisted by Mr. Gage Dukes. Viewing will be Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Laura was born on May 15, 1939 in Olustee, OK to Elmer and Evelyn (Anderson) Wells. She was the eldest of 6 children, which included brothers Wilber and Lawrence “Butch” Wells, sisters Jody Tidwell, Marilyn Bishop and Doris Wells. Laura grew up attending schools in Straight and Guymon, OK. After graduation, she went on to attend Oklahoma Panhandle State University, where she would meet the love of her life, Jimmy Selby. The two were married on January 1, 1960. To this union, four children were added: Kathleen, Martha Eileen, Dewayne and Michelle. They lived and raised their family in Mobeetie. Laura Fern worked several jobs during her career, including the First State Bank of Mobeetie and also owning and operating J & L.F. Sales and Service Station in Mobeetie for several years, among other jobs. Laura loved to sew, garden and canned many foods over the years. She loved church, her family and her friends fiercely. She had an undeniable and unshakable faith in her Lord and was always present and ready to witness to others. She was a true example of what a Christian should be. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Evelyn Wells; her husband Jimmy Selby; daughters Martha Eileen Selby and Michelle Selby; brothers and sisters-in-law Wilber and Kay Wells and Dwight Wells and Jim and Mollie Selby; and brother-in-law Frank Tidwell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Kathleen Anthony; son Dewayne Selby and his wife, Lori; Grandchildren include Chrystal (Nick) Calhoun, Cody Selby, Chelsea Wood, Amber Lee and Carrie Baggett; great grandchildren whom she loved and adored include Chase, Riley, Aubree, Brynlee, Rowan, Livy, Keaton, Kaizlee, Taelar, Rihann, Dalaynie, Daycie and Dalton; and numerous other beloved family members.
A special Thank You to Parkview Hospital and Assisted Living for all the exceptional care provided to Laura over the past few years and to BSA Hospice of the Southwest for their compassionate and loving care. Laura loved deeply and was loved by many in return. To know Laura is to know she was welcomed into Heaven with "Well done, good and faithful servant.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to the Church of Christ Wheeler Area, 1500 S. Alan Bean, Wheeler, TX 79096.
