SERVICES- 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in the First Baptist Church in Claude with Rev. Paul Mayhugh, Rev. Dick Gravley and Rev. Daymun White, officiating.
INTERMENT- Claude Cemetery in Claude.
Arrangements are by Robertson Armstrong Chapel of Claude.
LaNell was born March 12, 1925, to Forrest Brooks Doshier and Inez Christian Doshier in the Llano Community in southwest Armstrong County. She graduated from Claude High School and received a degree in Home Economics from Texas Tech University. While in college, she was named ‘Miss Texas Tech’ and was a member of Mortar Board and Phi Upsilon Omicron.
On January 25, 1947, LaNell married James Harley Gunter and moved north of Claude, where they farmed and ranched for almost 60 years. LaNell devoted her life to her family and frequently opened their home to extended family and friends.
LaNell was a believer of Jesus Christ as her savior and was a devoted servant to our Lord. She loved God’s Word, and as a member of First Baptist Church in Claude, she taught numerous Sunday School classes and served as a leader of G.A.’s and Children’s Bible Drill. She also went on church mission trips to Brazil and South Dakota.
As an active member of Daughters of the Republic of Texas, LaNell became sponsor of the Children of the Republic of Texas of the Palo Duro Chapter of Amarillo. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to appreciate Texas history.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - by her husband, James Harley, her parents, and brothers, George and Carroll Doshier.
SURVIVORS – son, Brooks Gunter and wife Jan, son Gary Gunter and wife Ina, daughter Martha Mathews and husband Steve, all of Claude; and daughter Karen Lehrmann and husband Steven of Sagerton. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
