Joyce Mildred Phillips' Obituary
SERVICES – 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in the First Baptist Church in Memphis with Rev. Jeff Smith, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Joyce Mildred Phillips was born February 9, 1920 in Abilene to Louis Alvin and Rushia Willard Petree Richards. She married Orval Phillips on March 29, 1940 in Memphis. She played piano for quartet that traveled in Texas and Oklahoma led by Burl Wills. Quarter consisted of Pauline Longshore, Everene Wills, Maxine Widener, and Opal Wills with Mildred on the Piano. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Memphis where she loved working Sunday School for 70 years, played piano also with pre-school children. Mildred was also a seamstress for 50 years and always enjoyed visiting with people. She also loved cooking meals for her family.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY – her parents; her husband, Orval Phillips; her sister, Maxine Widener; and a brother, L.A. Richards, Jr.
SURVIVORS – her daughter, Joy Smith and husband Jerry Don of Memphis; a brother, Mack Richards of Memphis; a sister, Patsy Jester of Hamilton; and a grandson, Jeffery Don Smith.
