Johnnie Rex Rattan's Obituary
Johnnie Rex Rattan, 83, of Lubbock, TX, formerly of Clarendon, TX, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in Lubbock.
Memorial services will be held at Robertson Saints Roost Chapel in Clarendon on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Johnny was born on March 13, 1943, in Clarendon, Texas, to M.L. and Roeda (Hollowell) Rattan. He was raised in Clarendon and graduated from Clarendon High School. He went on to study at Clarendon College and West Texas University, coming just a few credits shy of earning his bachelor’s degree. His studies were cut short when he married and began working for Woolco Department Store, a career that prompted several relocations for him and his family as he progressed professionally.
In 1982, Johnny returned to Clarendon, where he worked for Green’s Dry Goods before opening his own Donut Stop location. Johnny had a deep love for wrestling, traveling, and taking road trips with his family—especially during the years when his four daughters were young. He was a gifted writer who enjoyed composing poetry and was also a talented artist who spent time sketching.
Johnny had been a resident of Lubbock for the past eleven years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dennis Rattan; and his sister, Sybil Rattan.
Survivors include his four daughters, D’Lynn Thompson and husband Carol of Rockdale, TX; Kim Grady and husband Ron of Amarillo; Becky Hoggard and husband Bill of Hedley; and Susan Anderson and husband Ryan of Amarillo. He is also survived by his brother, Ricky Rattan of Clarendon; his sisters, Bernese Moreland of Arkansas and Annese Bennett of Porter, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Sarah Hart, Andy Cochran, Tiffany Ismael, Kierston Thomas, McKaelie Collier, Brandon Thomas, Suvanna Anderson, Nataly Anderson, and Rachel Anderson; ten great-grandchildren; niece, Charlotte Paul; and his good friend, Marty Compton.
