John Tas "Jay" Stone passed away at the age of 88 on October 28, 2006 in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Mr. Stone was born on November 7, 1917 in Cottle County, Texas to Tas Kirk and Jennie Lewis Stone. Following the early death of their father the family moved from Silverton to a farm Northeast of Clarendon in 1929. During the depression he and his brothers and sisters farmed and Jay worked for neighboring farms and ranches. In 1943, he married Mable Moore and they had one son. Toward the end of WWII he served in the U.S. Army. After separation from the Army he worked for the RO Ranch until 1955. Subsequently, he worked for the Texas Department of Transporation until his retirement. Jay always ran a small stock farm where his cattle and their care were his first love. Many people in the area became familiar with Jay’s beef. In 1982 Jay married Ola Bradshaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George; and one sister, Louise Riley.
Survivors include his wife, Ola of Clarendon; 4 sons, Roger Stone and wife Pam of Lawrence, Nebraska, Billy Bradshaw and wife Dianna of Wilmington, North Carolina, Dennis Bradshaw and wife JoAnne of Mineral Wells, Douglas Bradshaw and wife Ann of Benbrook; one brother, Kenneth Stone of Howardwick; one sister, Sue Hardage of Altus, OK; 12 Grandchildren; 22 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
