Joe Weatherly's Obituary
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Wheeler, TX with Rev. Rodney Weatherly, Rev. Larry Mitchell, and Rev. Villard Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Wheeler Cemetery, Wheeler, TX under the direction of Wright Funeral Directors, Wheeler, TX. Joe was born on October 19, 1925 in Amarillo, TX to Clifford Ruskin Weatherly and Artie Smith Weatherly. Joe worked for Mormans Manufacturing Company as a field research consultant for 15 years, and he was the founder and owner of the Beef Cattle Co. for 31 years. Joe was presented the National Environmental Stewardship Award in 1995 by the National Cattleman Association, and he was a pioneer in the cattle feeding industry. Joe married Mary Waters Weatherly on January 26, 1947 in Wheeler, TX. Joe was a WWII veteran in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department, the TCFA, and a school board president for 9 years. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister Dawn Shearer who passed in 2010. The family will be having visitation on June 17, 2011 at Wright Funeral Home Wheeler, TX from 6pm-8pm. Joe is survived by his wife Mary Weatherly of Wheeler, TX., 1 son Rodney Weatherly and wife Debra of Dalhart, TX., 2 daughters Diane Hunter and husband Villard of Brenham, TX., Nancy Riemer of Amarillo, TX., 7 grandchildren Terri Olsen, Chad Hunter, Rowdy Riemer, Casey Riemer, Dustin Weatherly, Shea Weatherly, Rachel Shreffler, and 19 great grandchildren. The family has requested in lieu of flowers and memorial be sent to Building Fund for the First Baptist Church P.O. Box 206 Wheeler, TX 79096, or the Wheeler Historical Museum c/o Bobbye Hill P.O.
