Joe Darnell's Obituary
Joe Gayle Darnell, 80 of Mobeetie passed away on November 9, 2024, in Canadian,
Texas surrounded by family. Services will be 2:00pm Friday, November 15, 2024 in the First Baptist Church in Mobeetie, with Tom Stribling and Erron Mercer, officiating. Burial will follow at the Mobeetie cemetery. Viewing will be held Thursday, November 14th at Robertson Funeral Directors, with family receiving friends for visitation from 4:00-6:00 P.M.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors in Wheeler.
Joe was born January 20, 1944, in Memphis, Texas to Huley and Hazel Darnell. He grew up in Hedley Texas and graduated from Hedley High School in 1962. On August24, 1963, he married Melba Simpson in Mobeetie, Texas. After getting married he went to work for Albert Thorn ranching for several years, before moving into town and going to work for Lester Lenard at the service station. He worked at the service station for many years before going to work for Chuck Hogan farming, ranching, and learning to run heavy equipment in the oilfield. He then worked as a pumper in the oilfield before retiring.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Hazel and Huley Darnell, brother Charlie
Darnell, and sister Christine Darnell.
Joe is survived by his wife, Melba Darnell of Mobeetie, TX; his brothers, Lonnie
Darnell and wife, Sharon of Austin, TX and Michael Darnell of Amarillo, TX;
daughters Gayla Hathaway and husband, Wade of Mobeetie, Debbie McLaughlin and husband, Kent of Mobeetie; grandchildren, Jason Hathaway and wife, Diana of Amarillo, TX, Andrea Hathaway of Mobeetie, Nathan McLaughlin and wife, Emily of Lovelady TX, Kory McLaughlin and wife, Ashley of Panhandle, TX, and Brandon Hathaway and wife, Samantha of College Station, TX; great grandchildren Jacob, Gabriella, Quade, Chance, Henlee, Bentley, Madison, Briar, Chate and Sutton.
Memorials may be made to the Mobeetie Cemetery Association in Mobeetie, TX.
