Jimmy Doyle Prestidge, 84, was born to Cecil & Anna Prestidge in Shamrock on August 20 , 1933. He lived in Shamrock all of his life except when he served two years in the United States Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After returning home from the service he worked alongside his father at Prestidge Wrecking Company.
On April 19, 1960, Jimmy was blessed with his firstborn, a son, Dennis . Then on July 28, 1962 he was once again blessed with his second son, Garry.
In 1969, as Jimmy was working with his dad at the wrecking yard, a fire broke out and he was burned severely. He spent years undergoing surgeries & treatment. Then on October 27, 1974, tragedy once again struck his life with the sudden loss of his 13 year old son, Dennis.
A few years ago, Jimmy’s nephew, Larry Flowers, felt led to go by his house to make sure Jimmy knew Jesus. He told Larry that he had received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, eternal forgiveness and salvation, at a revival service at First Baptist Church in Shamrock. So, as he will be missed greatly, we can rest assured that he is safe in the arms of Jesus.
Jimmy and his sister, Wanda Prestidge Flowers were especially close. She had taken care of his needs & finances for many years. As Wanda knew her days on this earth were very limited, she kept asking her family, “But what about Jimmy? Who will take care of him?” along with other pertinent information that would be needed to keep things going smoothly with home health, the VA, among other things. This was her main concern. He was loved.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Louis and Carroll, his sisters, Constance Morris and Wanda Flowers and his oldest son, Dennis.
He is survived by his son, Garry, and wife, Starla of Odessa, and his niece and caretaker, LaDonna and husband, Gary Oldham, of Samnorwood, five nieces and nephews and his friends at Shamrock Meals on Wheels and Accolade Home Health Care.
The family asks that memorials be made to Shamrock’s Meals On Wheels, P.O. Box 270, Shamrock, TX 79079, who played a very important part in Jimmy’s life by not only providing meals but by checking on him and visiting with him.
