Jimmy Don Goldston's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jimmy Don Goldston, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully at the age of 85.
Born on October 8, 1939, in McLean, Texas, Jim spent his life working hard and loving even harder. He was a man of many talents—spending his years as a dedicated farmer and rancher, tending the land with strong hands and an even stronger heart. In his younger years, he worked on several ranches as a cowboy, living out his true passion—riding the open range, working cattle, and embracing the cowboy way of life. For over 65 years, he bought and sold cattle, building lasting relationships and a deep knowledge of the industry he loved. He also worked as a barber, where his sharp wit and warm personality made every haircut more than just a trim—it was a visit filled with laughter and stories.
He was a faithful member of The First Methodist Church and the Lions Club, always dedicated to serving his community with kindness and generosity.
To those who knew him, he was more than his trades. He was “Paw Paw”—a gentle soul with a mischievous grin, always ready with a joke, a helping hand, or a kind word. His love for his family was unwavering, and he made sure to fill their lives with joy, wisdom, and, of course, a few pranks along the way.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Frankye Lynn Srygley Goldston. His parents, Laverne & Lucy Goldston. Siblings Fred, Homer, Bill, and Jerry Goldston.
Brother-in-law, Gilbert Srygley.
He leaves behind his children Clent Goldston, Jim Bob Goldston and wife Lori. Grandchildren Whitney Goldston Short and husband Don Short, Kiley Goldston, Jolie Goldston, Jared Goldston, Shae Goldston Shaw and Clint Shaw.
Great grandchildren, Graysen and Brooks Short, and Crew Shaw.
Sister, Sharon Goldston Wilson, and many others who were blessed to call him family.
While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the incredible life he lived—a life marked by love, laughter, and generosity. His legacy will live on in the stories he told, the lessons he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
A celebration of Jim’s life will take place on March 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at The First Methodist Church in Memphis, Texas. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to The First Methodist Church or The Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, Texas.
Rest easy, Paw Paw. We’ll miss you always.
