Jimmy Ray Beck's Obituary
Jimmy Ray Beck, 75, of Shamrock, Texas died Friday, November 8, 2024 in Amarillo, Texas.
Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 13, 2024 in the First Baptist Church in Shamrock with Rev. Mark Howard, Jeremiah Soto, and Kade Carpenter, officiating. Burial will follow in Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock.
Viewing will be held Tuesday at the funeral home with family receiving friends for visitation from 4:00-6:00 PM.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock.
Jim was born February 3, 1949 in Amarillo, Texas to Charles C. and Etta Lee McComus Beck. He grew up in Gruver and was a 1967 graduate of Gruver High School where he played football all four years of High School. He married Julia Helen Brothers on April 25, 1969 in Shamrock, Texas. He had been a resident of Lubbock, Tulsa, and Mesquite prior to moving back to Shamrock in 2005. While in Shamrock, he heavily supported all of the youth in Wheeler County. He was a former treasurer of the Shamrock Education Community Fund, Historian for the Shamrock Ex Students Association, and was a member of Shamrock Boosters. Jim was the only person honored by Shamrock ISD that wasn't a graduate of Shamrock High on their memorial wall that is proudly displayed at the school. Jim also served a term on the Shamrock City Council and was a past recipient of the Shamrock Man of the Year. His hobbies included photography, flying drones, trains, traveling, and the outdoors. He was a proud supporter of Shamrock ISD youth and athletics, and will be deeply missed by many. He deeply loved the community of Shamrock. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shamrock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Beck; and a brother in law, John Connell.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Beck of Shamrock; his daughter, Tamara Rayna Rodriguez of New Braunfels; a brother, Arnold Beck of Goodwell, Oklahoma; a sister, Betty Connell of Amarillo; 2 grandchildren, Ashlie Taylor and Ian Pearce of Dallas and Haley Robbins and Walter Dixson of Malvern, Arkansas; and 3 great grandchildren, Knox Pearce, Walter Dixson, Jr., and Annie Dixson.
The family request memorials be sent to Shamrock ISD Athletic Department, Shamrock Community Education Fund, or any Wheeler County Little League organization.
