Jimmie Lynch McFarland's Obituary
CLAUDE GRAVESIDE SERVICES- 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in Claude Cemetery with the Rev. Dick Gravley, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. INTERMENT- Claude Cemetery in Claude. Arrangements are by Robertson Armstrong Chapel of Claude. Family will receive friends for visitation Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Robertson’s. Jimmie was born on November 19, 1928 in Vernon, Texas, to Leon and Tiny McFarland. He grew up in Claude but lived briefly in Sanger, Phillips, and Panhandle. He attended Texas Tech University and worked at a bank in Snyder before joining the Army. He served as a Corporal in the Army in Germany from 1950-1952. After the Army, he worked at First National Bank of Claude and was Postmaster in Claude for many years until he retired in 1988. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Claude. He was active as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America and was Scoutmaster of Troop 17 of Claude for many years, earning the Silver Beaver award for his service and dedication. He was an avid gun collector and was a charter member of the Pioneer Gun Collectors Association of Amarillo. Jimmie knew Sharon Nelson since they were both kids and married her, his lifelong friend and love of his life, in 1956. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Claude; two sons, James McFarland of Denver, Colorado, and Brent McFarland and his wife, Darla of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Graham McFarland and Lily McFarland of Amarillo; and a brother, Donnie McFarland and his wife Doris of Amarillo. The family requests memorial be sent to a favorite charity. The family will be at 100 Dysart.
