Jewel Austin Houston was born as an angel, sent to help and heal others as an angel, and now has gone back home to heaven to fulfill her job as an outstanding angel. Jewel and I have always called each other sisters. Closer than some friends. She held my daughter Nicole when she was only a few days old, and argued with me that the baby was hers and not mine. Nicole grew up knowing Jewel as a godmother, in the library and at home. I last spoke with Jewel after Christmas and talked about how nice and sweet her husband, Billy, had always been to her. I told her that even though I had never met him. I knew that he had to be an unusually nice man for her to marry him. Thank you, Billy, for being beside Jewel throughout all of her illness and bad days. May Jewel always have comfort and joy watching over all who know her. And may we all never forget the angel that walked among us.
