Jerry Don Wells' Obituary
Service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in the First Baptist Church, Shamrock. Burial will follow in Shamrock Cemetery, Shamrock.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors, Shamrock.
Jerry Don Wells, devoted husband, father, and Pa, was born in Wellington, TX, to Ray C. and Hazel (Haralson) Wells on January 11, 1938. He died in Shamrock, TX on November 12, 2017.
Don graduated from Canyon High School and West Texas State College (now WTA&M University). He earned his CPA license in 1963 and maintained it until his death. He retired from active practice in 2010.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, Don married his high school sweetheart, Miss Janis Hope Wright, in Canyon on November 9, 1957. She died in 2001. He married Georgine West on April 24, 2004.
Don and his family moved to Shamrock in 1964. Besides practicing accounting, he was active in the community and First Baptist Church. He served approximately ten years each on the City Council and South Wheeler County Hospital District Board of Directors. He was an organizer, board member, and volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. He was ordained as a deacon in 1975, then recognized as deacon emeritus in 2010. He served on numerous committees, was an active choir member, taught Sunday school classes, and served wherever he was needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jan; a brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Sandra Wells; and a granddaughter, Megan Malone. He is survived by his wife, Georgine, of the home; his four children: Scott (Renae) Wells of Richland, WA; Lea Ann (Marty) Malone of Shamrock; Mark (Lisa) Wells of Azle, TX; and Debbie (Allan) Herbert of Perryton, TX; two step-sons: Preston (Sarah) Tirey of Canyon, TX and Jason (Vanessa) Tirey of San Antonio, TX; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight (soon to be nine) great grandchildren; and a brother, J G. (Sonnie) Wells of Ozark, AR.
