James Madison Verden, 90, a resident of Wheeler for 62 years and Angleton for two years, entered the gates of Heaven December 13, 2020. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 19 at Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler Read Obituary

One of the finest men I ever knew. Aunt Myrtle I know you must miss him terribly but knowing he is in God’s kingdom is such a blessing to us all. We love you, miss you, and hope it won’t be too long before we can exchange big hugs!

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I'm praying for God to comfort and keep your family in the days ahead as you grieve this loss. My favorite memory of your father was when Mitchie and I were both still elementary school age and somehow ended up being left by our parents at the church building after worship. They had driven separately and each thought we were with the other parent. James found us crying and said, "Come with me. I'll take you home." He was all too happy to pull up to our house with us just as my parents arrived home to realize that we had been left behind. I can still hear him giving my dad a hard time and laughing about what kind of a parent would forget their own children. James was a good man and Wheeler was a better place because of him.
