James Mitchell Newsted, 77, of Claude formerly of Shamrock died Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in Claude.
Graveside Services with US Air Force Honors will be 2:00 PM Thursday, December 6, 2018 in Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock with Jim Reyna, officiating. Burial will follow in Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock.
James was born July 16, 1941 in Chehalis, Washington to Chester and Mae Carolina Newsted. He married Linda Kaye Petty on February 2, 1963 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a US Air Force veteran. James had worked for McDonnel Douglas for 25 years and then for Ace Hardware for 8 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the McLean Church of Christ and Shamrock Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda Newsted on December 16, 2017; and 2 brothers, Vernon Newsted and Timothy Newsted.
Survivors include his children, Melody Newsted of Claude, Scott Newsted and wife Caroline of Claude, and Kelly Benton and husband Larry of Newton Grove, North Carolina; one sister, Susan Huebert of Canton, South Dakota; his grandchildren, Crystal and Austin Miller, Kaitlin and Nolan Wiedeman, Damien Schlehofer, Tyler Newsted, Kayla Benton, Gabrielle Benton, and William Benton; 7 great grandchildren; 2 nieces of Shamrock; 4 great nephews; 1 great niece; and one dog who he loved dearly, Rascal.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to the VFW.
