Inez Sharon McFarland's Obituary
Inez Sharon McFarland, born April 9, 1933, died September 16, 2023. The oldest child of Avis and Lloyd Nelson, Sharon has two sisters, Shirley Lovell of Claude, Texas, and Marilyn Nelson-Perry of Springfield, Missouri. Married to Jimmie McFarland, who passed away in 2012, Sharon has two sons, James Lloyd McFarland from Denver, Colorado, and Brent McFarland from Claude, Texas.
Sharon lived in Texas her entire life. After graduating from Claude High School, she attended Baylor University where she received a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in music. She was a grade-school teacher in several Texas towns. She attended Texas Tech University where she earned a master’s degree in music education. She married Jimmie McFarland in 1956 and spent the next few years becoming the best wife and mother in the world.
Sharon was very involved in her community. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Claude, where she played piano and organ regularly for worship services and for many weddings and funerals. She also taught piano lessons for decades, helping many people to develop their own musical talent. Sharon held a special fondness for the young people in the Claude community and for years she hosted a Bible school known as Good News Club for school-age children.
A devout Christian, Sharon enjoyed Bible studies, religious music, books, and television programs, and sharing the Word of God with others. She undoubtedly led many people to a faith in Jesus Christ.
She was well known for her kindness toward others. For instance, her son James was a professional comedian for several years, and she occasionally even laughed at some of his jokes.
Sharon was proud to be a Texan, and proud to be from Claude. She was a strong, patriotic woman with a keen sense of humor, who loved to laugh, play music, and to visit often with her dear friends.
Sharon passed away peacefully at the age of 90, after living for years in the house she loved, the same house she grew up in. She is survived by her two sons, her daughter-in-law Darla, her grandson Graham, her granddaughter Lily, her sisters Shirley and Marilyn, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 10 AM at First Baptist Church in Claude with Rev. Dick Gravley officiating. Private burial will follow. Viewing will be held at Robertson Claude Chapel on Friday, September 22nd from 1 PM-6PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Claude. She will be missed.
