Long time Shamrock resident, Herman Alvis Neal Jr. (Rowdy Neal) passed from this life on Monday, May 15, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.
Mr. Neal was born September 5, 1928 to Lucinda Claiborne Neal and Herman Alvis Neal, Sr. in Kentucky Town, TX, the 6th of 11 children born from their union.
To hear him tell it, he had a good, long, healthy 87 years up until his diagnosis with stomach cancer during his 88th year.
Mr. Neal was a skilled mechanic and wasn’t shy to share the fact, in his own words, “the best mechanic in Shamrock, TX!” He was a proud member of the Lions Club and served as president for 6 years. He proudly pulled the Lions Club St. Patrick’s Day float each year he was asked with a smile from ear to ear. He helped people too numerous to count with his service to those in the community. He was a kid at heart and had a beautiful way with making lifelong bonds with all that took the time to get to know him. He was a true gentleman with a heart of gold and will be truly missed by those that loved him. He was indeed a genuine Fighting Irishman and was proud to call Shamrock his home. He was an amazing man, an ordinary man that led an extraordinary life. He inspired many to become who they are today and for that we say thank you for being who you were!
He was preceded in death by wife Bernell O’Neal Neal in October 1978, his parents and 8 siblings.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 38 years, Maria Ines Neal; a daughter, Angela Dawn Howk & husband Wayne; three sons, Alvis Lynn Neal & wife Janet, Gerald Dwayne Neal & wife Heather, and Adrian Alvis Neal & wife Brandie; two sisters, Emma Rolen and Carol Joslyn & husband Jim. 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Neal was a true example of what it meant to be a husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend!
