Harvey Keith Puryear's Obituary
Harvey Keith Puryear of Wheeler, TX passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025 in Wheeler at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 14 days. Family and friends will gather at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Wheeler Area Church of Christ to honor Harvey and celebrate his life. David Zybach and Tommy Hays will officiate.
Cremation and Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Harvey was born July 5, 1948 in Canadian, TX to Jeff and LaJuana (Treadwell) Puryear. He was the youngest of 5 boys, with 2 younger sisters. The family lived in Mobeetie, TX but soon moved to the family ranch northeast of Briscoe, TX on Gageby Creek. He was active in sports while in school and went to state in basketball. He graduated from Briscoe High School in 1966. He grew up working on the family ranch, beginning with milking cows as a young child. He later began farming wheat and hay. Harvey married Lois Austin in 1972 in Childress, TX. They moved to Wheeler, where he continued farming and ranching. Over the years, he raised longhorn cattle as well as quarter horses. He went to work for Tejas Feeders, working as a night watchman for 22 years.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and LaJuana Puryear; three brothers, Thomas Puryear, Gary Puryear and Larry Puryear; and one sister, Helen Puryear
He is survived by his wife, Lois Puryear of Wheeler; 2 sons, Rodney Puryear and wife, Jennifer of Pampa, TX and Wesley Puryear of Wheeler; his grandson, Henry Puryear of Pampa; one brother, Jeffery Puryear and wife, Julie of Denton, TX; one sister, Mary Mayfield and husband, Eddie of Erick, OK; and numerous other nieces, nephews and loved ones.
