Gaylon Kirkland Sr.'s Obituary
Gaylon Kirkland Sr., 67, of Shamrock, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Wheeler Nursing Home after a long battle with chronic illness, A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Cornerstone Church at 601 S Main St Wheeler, TX, with Daylon Kirkland officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate the life of a man who lived fully and loved deeply.
Cremation and Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock.
Gaylon was born in Dozier, Texas on April 22, 1958 to Eugene and Stella (Yarbrough) Kirkland and lived a life of hard work and adventure. He spent many years on the road as a truck driver, traveling across the countryside he loved so much. A passionate racing enthusiast, Gaylon rarely missed a race and found great joy in the roar of engines and the thrill of the track.
Gaylon was a devoted father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene Kirkland and Stella Yarbrough.
He is survived by his siblings, Lillian Hall, Tressie Sanders, Ruby Kellison, Shirley Harris and Daylon Kirkland; his children, Cindy Downie and Gaylon Kirkland Jr.; and his four beloved grandchildren, Kaleb Kirkland, Josta Kirkland, Ian Ramos and Lucy Kirkland.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local Meals on Wheels in Gaylon's memory.
