SERVICES- 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 28, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church in Memphis.
INTERMENT- Fairview Cemetery in Memphis.

Garvin Hugh Speed was born in Pittsburg, California on April 27, 1950 to Ellen and Orace Speed. The family moved to Hollis, Oklahoma when he was 3 years old and later to Memphis when he was in Junior High. He married Lucheryl Tucker on February 11, 1983 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. The couple just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Garvin’s love was law enforcement and he started his career with the Sheriff’s Office in Childress in 1971. He retired after serving the people for 25 years, as Sheriff of Hall County. During these years he served on many boards locally and at a state level. He also served many years on the Memphis Volunteer Fire Department and EMS. He was a certified fireman and EMT. He later served on the Estelline Volunteer Fire Department. Garvin and his wife took on an adventure as over the road truck drivers for U. S. Xpress. The couple team drove 48 states and Canada for 8 years. Garvin retired in 2010 after 15 years. He was extremely talented in many areas and had a passion for guns and old cars. He had a warm heart for a stray cat, he later named Smokey Jo. He spent many hours enjoying Smokey and her many kittens, especially one he fondly called “Sissy”.
Garvin joined his Lord, after a brief illness, on May 26, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His survivors are his wife Lucheryl and their children Kira Boyd and Damon of White Deer, Kelly Speed and Misty of Clarendon, Stacey Ellis of Kerrville and Chad Ellis and Melissa of Mansfield. Grandchildren Rowdy Speed of Clarendon, Brady Ellis and Meagan Ellis of Mansfield and Tanner Boyd of Tulia. A brother Tommy Speed of Lubbock and an aunt Zelma Kennedy of Paris, Texas.
The family requested Memorials be made to the National Stroke Association, CRMC Hospice or the Hall County EMS.
The family will be at 520 South 6th Street in Memphis.
