Fay L. Gearhart's Obituary
Fay Lorraine Gearhart was born December 23, 1935, in Chanute Kansas, to John and Ruby Gearhart. He was the youngest of 6 siblings. F.L. went to be with Jesus surrounded by his loving family with joyful songs and prayer on February 1, 2020, at the home of his daughter in Mustang, Oklahoma.
Services for F.L. Gearhart are scheduled for Thursday, February 6, 2020, 1PM, at the Wheeler Church of Christ.
Viewing will be held at Robertson Funeral Directors Wednesday, February 5, 2020, 12-6PM.
F.L. was raised in Southeast Kansas. He married the love of his life, Mary Jane Alumbaugh, on June 27, 1954, in Iola, Kansas. The 58-year long union blessed them with 3 children, Connie, Jim, and Danny. He was a loving, devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather. Later in life, he became Mary Jane's caretaker while she fought her battle with cancer. After her passing, he married Virginia DeBose and gained 3 more children to love, Jeff, Danny, and Tammy.
F.L. loved unconditionally. He was known to friends, family, and his community, as Pappy. He never shied away from helping anyone in need or giving them advice. He often said, “He was a jack of all trades and a master of none.” He could lay concrete, fix a chair, sharpen any object, or train a “worm” in the oilfield. He worked day and night making sure his family was taken care of. Whether it was pulling doubles in the oilfield, laying concrete, or using his handyman skills, the definition of hard work shown through him.
Pappy was a member of Wheeler Church of Christ. He was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord. When asked about his favorite verse, he would say it did not matter because it is all true. His deviled eggs made every church gathering complete and his handyman skills will be missed.
Pappy loved his family very much. He loved having his family around him and doing odd jobs for any and everyone. We often joked that he and grandma started all this loving chaos. He also had a great love for dogs. He never left his house without his loyal companion.
He is survived by his children, Connie Thomas and husband, Dennis; Jim Gearhart and wife, Darla; Danny Gearhart and wife, Susan; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter.
Pappy was preceded in death by his parents; 2 siblings; 1 grandson; his 1st wife Mary Jane and his 2nd wife Virginia.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made out to the Wheeler Church of Christ, PO BOX 323, Wheeler, Texas, 79096.
