Faris Jake Hess II, 65, of McLean died July 14, 2012 after a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jake was born on July 30, 1946 to Faris Jake and Leta Mae Hess. Jake lived on the ranch he loved in Collingsworth County, TX. Jake attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in Animal Science in 1968. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Jake spent his childhood in McLean, Texas and returned in 1971 to begin his career in ranching. In recent years, he was found running the cash register or visiting with customers at the Country Corner.
Jake was involved with many civic organizations: McLean School Board of Trustees, McLean United Methodist Church, McLean EMS, Texas Hereford Association, American Hereford Association, and American Quarter Horse Association. In addition to these organizations, he cared for every person he met and would always extend a generous hand.
Jake’s family meant the world to him. He was a loving father to his three children and a caring son to his parents. He is survived by his son, Tres Hess and wife, Danna of Stratford, Texas; son, Tanner Hess and wife, Christi of McLean, Texas; and daughter Heather Braden and husband, Kevin of Stratford, Texas. He loved spending time with his grandchildren: Ty, Shay, Amanda, and Jacob Hess, and Luke, Bryce and Madison Braden. Jake is also survived by his sister, Nancy Blackburn of San Antonio, Texas, many cousins, and treasured friends. His parents, Faris Jake and Leta Mae Hess, preceded him in death.
The family would like to express a special thank you to BSA Hospice of Pampa and Amarillo, and the many family members and friends who supported them during this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the McLean-Alanreed Historical Museum and the United Methodist Church Building Fund.
