Elva Livian Dishman Davis' Obituary
AMARILLO / HEDLEY
SERVICES - 10:30 am on Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Amarillo with Rev. Robert Fields officiating.
INTERMENT - 2:00 pm at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley, Texas.
Mrs. Davis was born on November 13, 1915 in Rogers, Arkansas to Simeon Perry & Isabell Whaley Dishman. She was a graduate of Hedley High School’s class of 1933 and shortly after her graduation she married Frank Douglas “Skeeter” Davis on November 18, 1933 in Memphis, Texas. Before moving to Amarillo in 1978, Elva and her husband farmed and ranched north of Hedley until Frank’s death in 1949. She was active in the First Baptist Church in Hedley and had been the Postmaster at the Hedley Post Office until her retirement. She was an avid reader, quilter, and most of all, loved to oil paint. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Amarillo.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - her parents; her husband, Frank Douglas “Skeeter” Davis on August 29, 1949; 1 son Frank Douglas Davis, Jr.; 3 brothers, Elmer, Earl, and Edward Dishman; 2 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
SURVIVORS - 5 daughters, Barbara Chedester and husband L.D. “Red”, Sandra Penn and husband Billy, Sharon Crews and her late husband Seth all of Amarillo, Linda Stephens and husband John of Sparta, TN, and Thava Merrett and husband Paul of Aztec, NM; a sister-in-law, Edna Dishman of Dallas; 8 grandchildren, Scott Gray, Neil Hemelstrand, Cameron Gray, Douglas Stephens, Terry Stephens, Michael Stephens, Mitchell Stephens, Steven Hemelstrand; 18 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.
MEMORIALS - The family request memorials be to the Rowe Cemetery Association.
The body will be available for viewing Thursday at Rector Funeral Home, 2800 South Osage, from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:00 pm at Rector Funeral Home.
