Effie Callaway Payne's Obituary
Effie Callaway Payne, 86, of McLean, passed away on October 13, 2023, at Southeast Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and a dear friend to many (she never met a stranger). Effie was reunited in heaven with her late husband, Bo Callaway. She also reunited with her husband Roger Payne; parents, Myrtle Mae Trout and Jessie Cooper Sr., Sons, Keith and Steven Callaway; Sisters, Faye Crutcher, Marry Lou Richardson, Marie Adams and Debbie Acuna, Brother, Jessie Cooper Jr.; Grandkids, Misty Rayburn-Meads and Jason Jent, and her beloved dog, Midget.
She is survived by her Children: Phyllis Rayburn, Sharon Callaway, Dale Callaway, Ricky Callaway, and Rocky Callaway; 27 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; Brothers, James Holloway and Cecil Cooper; numerous nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and a plethora of extended family.
Effie was a woman of miraculous spirit who never saw herself as superior to others. She was overflowing with love and life; her wisdom transcended earthly bounds. She generously shared her profound insights with those her heart guided her to. Effie bestowed immeasurable blessings of unconditional love and anointed wisdom upon her family and loved ones.
As a homemaker and wife, she uniquely connected with each of her children. Effie, not just a grandmother but a nurturing "Nanny," extended her love to her grandchildren, treating them as her own. To her nieces and nephews, she was more than an aunt; she was their cherished Aunt Effie, a symbol of unwavering love. Effie's generosity reached beyond blood ties, as she was pivotal in raising and caring for children not related by blood. Miraculous in her ways, Effie's love extended to animals, treating them as cherished family members, caring for Mocha, Jiggs, and Little Girl with unparalleled love and compassion. Her passion for nature, arts, and cooking added vibrant hues to the canvas of her remarkable life.
A service will be held on Friday, October 20, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Church, 401 Railroad St, McLean, TX 79057, with Bobby Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean.
