Douglas Wade Thompson, 88, of Groom, Texas died Sunday, May 25, 2025 in Groom.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 31, 2025 in the First Baptist Church in Groom, Texas with Rev. Tyler Eggleston, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Groom.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon, Texas.
Douglas was born May 23, 1937 in Mosheim, Texas to Gerald H. and Lola Mae Warren Thompson. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Hermesmeyer on February 7, 1975 in Douglas, Wyoming and moved to Douglas, Wyoming to begin their life together. He had worked as a construction office manager prior to his retirement. Doug and Marilyn had been residents of Groom since 2008. Doug was a cowboy and had a love for rodeo. He rode in the rodeo circuit for several years roping and bulldogging. He also loved western movies and his family was everything to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on March 17, 2020; a daughter, Denise Ann Rode; his brothers, George, Wayne, Jess, and Jerry; his sisters, Yvonne Lamb and Imogene Finley; and a son in law, Gary Lord.
He is survived by 4 daughters, Lynn Thompson Cochran and husband Brice of Windsor, Colorado, Rhonda Thompson Lord of Parker, Colorado, Janet Quirk Carey and husband Doug of Weatherford, Texas, and Charlotte Quirk Coleman and husband Tim of Magnolia, Texas; a son, Randy Quirk and wife Cindy of Dumas, Texas; a son in law, Steve Rode of Nederland, Texas; a brother, Dwight Thompson of Groom, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
The family request memorials be sent to Groom Fire Department, Groom Ambulance Service, or the Groom Community Center.
