Dortha Mae McCurley's Obituary
Dortha Mae McCurley, 86, of Wheeler died Sunday, July 8, 2018, in Canadian.
Graveside services will be 9:00 am Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Mobeetie Cemetery in Mobeetie with Pastor Rodney Weatherly, of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pampa, and Pastor Jerry Howe, of First Baptist Church in Dumas, officiating.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Dortha was born September 5, 1931 in Lindsey, Oklahoma to Lee and Fay Hays Everett. She married Teddie Ray McCurley on January 19, 1952 in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma. Mrs. McCurley had lived in several towns throughout the panhandle and Oklahoma working as a boxer in a factory and for the United States Post Office. Mrs. McCurley had also worked at the banks in Chico and Bridgeport. It was in 1991 when Mrs. McCurley moved to Wheeler and would spend many years working for the First State Bank Mobeetie, serving as Vice President. She liked to cook and would sew clothes for her girls. She had also taught GA’s and taught Sunday School. Dortha supported of all the various activities her children were a part of and she was a constant companion and the biggest supporter of her husband, Ted. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wheeler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kathy McCurley Howe; 3 brothers, Gaylon, Hubert and Franklin Everett; and by a sister, Nancy Alexander.
Survivors include her husband, Ted McCurley of Canadian; 2 sons, Randy McCurley and wife Carol of Mobeetie, Bryan McCurley of McLean; a daughter Becky and husband Lee Odell of White Deer; a son-in-law, Jerry Howe; 2 sisters, Virginia Freeman of Antioch, Oklahoma and Allene Nunley of Borger; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and by 6 great-great grandchildren.
The family request in lieu of flowers that memorials be sent to Mobeetie Cemetery.
