SAN ANGELO / HEDLEY SERVICES- 2:00 PM Saturday, July 5, 2014, in Robertson Funeral Directors Saints' Roost Chapel in Clarendon with Everett Stevens, officiating. INTERMENT- Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. Dorothy Mercine Clark Whitaker, formerly of Hedley TX, passed away peacefully on July 1st 2014 at the Park Plaza Nursing Center in San Angelo TX. at the age of 97. She was born to Willis and Rose Clark on her Mother’s birthday, Nov 16 1916 in a home south of Darrouzett, Texas. The two story home was built by her Father which was finished a few days before her birth. Dorothy was a loving mother, wife, homemaker and a devout Christian. Dorothy was married to Murrell Whitaker, June 29 1956 in Portales New Mexico. After living in Amarillo until 1967 they moved to Ft. Bend County. Following his retirement from teaching auto mechanics they moved to the small town of Hedley TX in 1983, relocated to San Angelo TX in 2006. Murrell preceded her in death in Feb of 2010. Dorothy was preceded in death by many siblings: Earl, Ben, Willis, Delmer and Gene Clark, Rosella Brown, Lillie Stagner, Leila Scarth, and son Gene David Dean and one step son Victor Whitaker. She had three children, Gene David (deceased), Roy l. Dean and Jimmie Joe Dean, four step children: Murrell, Alice, Bill, several nieces and nephews, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be made to a Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville TX or a favorite charity.
