Donnie Huckert's Obituary
Donnie Huckert, AKA “The Bread Man,” of Wheeler, TX, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 in Wheeler at the age of 75 years, 2 months and 28 days. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Cornerstone Church in Wheeler, TX, with Daylon Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow at Wheeler Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Donnie was born on February 4, 1949 in Hereford, TX to the late Joe Huckert and Norma (Gallagher) Huckert. He grew up in Hereford and married Susan Heffner on May 20, 1996 in Shamrock, TX. Donnie was a very dedicated family man who loved all his family dearly. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He worked as a salesman, delivering bread for Mrs. Baird’s for 14 years and also worked for Borden’s for several years delivering milk. One of Donnie’s greatest joys was music. He enjoyed listening, but loved playing. He was a drummer and had a band for many years called the Star Gazers. They were very popular, opening for George Jones, playing for Bob Wills and even having one of their songs featured on American Bandstand with Dick Clark one time. They recorded an album for Sun Records during this time. Donnie’s Catholic faith was very important to him as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Norma Huckert; one brother, Jimmy Huckert; and a nephew, Larry Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Susan, of Wheeler; 1 son, Brent Huckert and wife, Becca, of Tampa, FL; 3 daughters, Dana Sawyer and husband, Bubba, of Sapulpa, OK, Gena Childress and husband, Duane, of Longview, TX and Stacy Goldberg and husband, Robert, of Shamrock, TX; 9 grandchildren, Caitlyn Childress, Zachary Childress, Logan Childress, Amelia Cullen, Colin Huckert, Megan Shackelford, Laney Garcia, Kimberly Scheidger and Leandra Westbrook; numerous great grandchildren; 1 sister, Mary Ellen Cline of Portales, NM; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members.
