Following the lunch, Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM at Dreamland Cemetery in Turkey, TX. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Donald Ray Mills, “Don”, known for his love of cookies, chocolate, guns, hunting, fishing, golf, westerns, telling jokes, and cars passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the ripe age of 72. Although, he always said he felt like he was 102.
Don was well known for being ornery and was often referred to as “The Funniest Man Alive.” His jokes were plenty. To include, one liner’s such as, “I’m so hungry I could eat the spinning wheel out of a spider’s butt.” He could keep an audience of family, friends, and even strangers in “stitches” as he’d spin his tales. He is remembered by so many for his humor, and stories will be told for decades of how he could make anyone belly laugh until their sides hurt. As many know, he suffered from Alzheimer’s in his final years but never lost his ornery sense of humor. Just ask his nurses. Of course, Don is loved by so many. He was born in Littlefield TX on April 12, 1942. Don gave his late mother Margaret Lowe years of joy and aggravation growing up with his four siblings, Warren, Danforth, Bernard, and Keith Mills. Married to Beth Mills for 29 years; she can tell you all about love, joy, and aggravation. He is survived and loved by his sons, Todd and Garrett Mills. Cherished by his daughter-in-law, Danielle Mills, and forever loved and remembered as “Big Pap” by his grandchildren, Zachary, Haylee, Brooke, and Alexa Mills. As well as, so very many other people that will carry him in their heart.
Don was best known for his humor but equally known as the best gunsmith in the Panhandle of TX. He worked many years with Panhandle Gunslingers. People would travel from surrounding states to get one of his famous trigger jobs or a weapon custom built by him. He loved building guns and cars, and people trusted, above many, his advice on both. He was a man of his word and of simple pleasures.
