Donald "Don" Leroy Schoon, of Lewisville, TX, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026 in Lewisville at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 1 day. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler, TX, with Jason Leochner officiating.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors in Wheeler.
Don was born April 4, 1939 in Parkston, SD to William "Bill" and Anna Schoon. After finishing school, Don joined the military, serving in both the United States Air Force and United States Army. Eventually, through the armed forces, Don ended up in Amarillo, TX and met the love of his life, Mary Beth Kelley. They were married June 16, 1962. Don and Beth made a life for themselves in Amarillo and welcomed their daughter, Shonda Ann Schoon, on September 5, 1965. Shonda was the light of their lives. Don loved and raised miniature horses, taking them to various functions throughout the Amarillo area. He loved and lived the cowboy way of life with Beth, by his side for 57 years of marriage until her passing December 5, 2019. Don loved his wife and daughter. He loved to collect knives and guns and loved his western movies.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" and Anna Schoon; and his wife of 57 years, Mary Beth Schoon.
Survivors include his daughter, Shonda Schoon-Leochner and husband, Jason of Decatur, TX; his brother, Calvin Schoon and wife, Kathy of South Carolina; 3 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
