My guess is Don Thornberry was a man who understood well the importance of many things...hard work, a man’s word, honesty, and discipline. I always had the feeling that as a cattleman, he was the “real deal,” old school you might say. Maybe what stood out most to me, however, was the impression he gave me that land in its own unique way can be more than something from which one earns an income. I believe to him it was a living, breathing being...something for which you would sacrifice almost everything to keep it alive and breathing... something sacred. Seeing that kind of world through those kind of eyes a would be a blessing to any of us, and I feel certain it blessed those closest to him. Don Thornberry’s legacy can be a reminder of what is good in this mortal life and at the same time give us a boot in the right direction.
